Two Months Old!

Dear Lucas,
You are still growing so much! You are 13 pounds and 23.5 inches.  You are wearing 3 month in Carters and 3-6 month in other brands.  There are even a few 6 month onesies you can fit in! Whenever people see you they think you are older than you are or they comment on your size.  I think it is quite funny.  They also talk about your hair.  Oh how I love your hair! So far it is still all there and coming in thicker.  You do have a major cowlick on the back of your head that at first glance may seem like a bald spot but its not, your Auntie Angelina, the hair stylist, confirmed this.

You are cooing and smiling and it just melts our hearts.  With all of your tears it is nice that you are finally letting us know that you are happy sometimes too:)  You have been on a growth spurt this past week so you are eating 9-11 times a day.  Some days you sleep a lot! But there have been a couple where you literally have not slept AT ALL during the day which does not make you too happy and makes mommy and daddy very tired.  I think you'll grow into a schedule soon though.

You have discovered your voice and it is so adorable when you are happy.  You can hear yourself giggle so you'll do it again.  You sometimes gurgle and then you'll try to replicate that.  You also learned how loud you can scream though which breaks our hearts because you scream quite a bit but we try to get you happy as fast as we can!  You started to enjoy things beside our faces.  Your favorite thing is our ceiling fan.  You could look at it for hours and it makes you smile! You love looking at your mobile, you will last a few minutes on your tummy mat and you like to look at your play mat for 30-45 minutes in the morning.

You still love to be held the most though, especially when you sleep!

Oh, your sleep! You love sleeping in the oddest positions and last the longest in them.  It makes us laugh so much.

Oh, how we love you!! We cannot wait to see your personality grow and what new things you will learn!

Love, Mommy and Daddy

My First Mother's Day

It is so incredible that I get to be a part of this "holiday."  Since we are so close to my mom now we went down and stayed with her. We got to celebrate with my mom and my grandma.

On Friday my mom came up to take care of Lucas while I went to the eye doctor and she gave me an early present of getting a pedicure.  It was so nice to get out on my own to relax and take care of myself.  Plus my mom absolutely adores Lucas.  She did say though that she now understands what we mean with him being a fussy baby;)
Grammi B with a sleeping baby.  He will sleep in the oddest position as long as he is in someone's arms.

On Saturday we then headed to her house.  This was Lucas's first "long" car trip. Mind you we are talking less than two hours.  Somehow though we ended up stopping twice, once to nurse and once to clean a poop explosion.  For about 15 minutes Kevin and I kept finding poop on each other.  We could not figure out where it kept coming from! Lucas seemed clean. But there it was on my dress, neck, hands, arm and on Kevin's hands, shirt and sunglasses.  We were a sight to see on the side of the road!
Monterey Wharf
This was also Lucas's first overnighter somewhere else.  That night he threw a complete fit and did not go to bed until 11:30 but he slept for four hours and went without nursing for 6 hours.  It was incredible.  Kevin got up on Mother's Day morning to get my mom and I our favorite Starbucks.  I woke up without a voice though:( so I got a tea.  If you know me you know how much I love my Starbucks coffee! But I was getting sick (still am by the way.)
With my Granny! Lucas's great-grandma.

Then we headed to the Wharf in Monterey for a walk and lunch.  It was an absolutely gorgeous day!
Lucas wasn't too thrilled with our family photo.

I had such an amazing Mother's Day and it was so wonderful to be able to spend it with my mom also.  I absolutely love being so much closer to her.
Four generations!
For my mom I found this great idea on Pinterest.  Stamping Lucas's feet was a lot harder than expected but I'm happy with the outcome.

Ok, enough procrastinating...I got cleaning to do.  I could only drag out this Mother's Day for so long!;)

Smiles and Tears

Well Lucas is six weeks and three days old.  We really don't want to jinx it but there has been a change of sorts.  The last three nights he has gone four hours between nursing sessions and the last two nights he has slept on his own for a couple three hour sessions.

We went to the doctor today and our big boy is 12 lbs 4 oz and 23.5 inches long!  In just over six weeks he has gained four whole pounds and grown 2.5 inches.  I cannot believe.  I like statistics so he his in the 80th percentile for weight, 90th for height and 75th for his head.

Lucas had to get five shots! It was horrific. I shed many tears.

The doctor also gave us a prescription for infant reflux.  We will start on that tomorrow and I am praying that it will make a difference.

Last night I woke up with an engorged breast that hurt so bad (TMI?).  After nursing it did not go down.  After the 5 am session I realized I needed to pump and hoped that would help.  So at 6 am I went out to pump and started my Google search.  I LOVE Google!  Turns out I had a blocked milk duct that was causing a quarter of my boob to feel like a rock and each time my milk would come it just got worse.  So painful!  So Google told me that I needed to pump for as long as possible while massaging "like you are mauling a bear that is about to attack your baby."  Of course 5 min in Lucas starts screaming.  Kevin tried to handle him for as long as possible but Lucas wouldn't stop.  The article also said that you can nurse as much as the baby wants.  It hadn't quite been two hours but if it would get him to stop screaming and help my pain I was all in.  After hours of pain, several nursing and pumping sessions with the roughest massage I could handle I think I got it.  I'm completely bruised but what are you going to do.  I swear if it's not one thing, it's another.

Tomorrow my mom is coming to town so I can get some things done and then we're headed to her place on Saturday to spend Mother's Day weekend together.  I can't believe I'm a mom this Mother's Day.

Quick note on the binky.  Wednesday Lucas and I were headed to have lunch with Kevin and we got stuck in traffic.  I mean completely stopped, car turned off, people standing outside of their cars traffic.  And we were on a road where you can't pull over or turn around.  Lucas is great in the car...when it's running.  Not great when he's getting hungry and the car is stopped.  So enter the binky.  I have to admit it saved my life. Once he took it he fell asleep.  I have a love/hate relationship with it but I'm learning how to make it work for all of us.
So tired from the shots!

Ok, have a wonderful weekend! Lucas is letting me know that I've taken enough time on here;)

6 Weeks!

Lucas is six weeks old.  So our lives are supposed to change today, right? Everyone said just wait until he's six weeks old and things will turn around.  So tonight he'll sleep, right? No more fussiness, right?  Ha! I'm now being told, no, no wait until he's three months old. That's when you'll see the real change. I'm not holding my breath.
Funny face!
I've actually become a lot more accustomed to Lucas's ways.  I no longer have any ideas of grandeur that he'll turn into an "easy" baby.  Because of this blog, a few people have reached to me stating they think Lucas has acid reflux and I think they are right. It's tough though because the symptoms for reflux, dairy allergy and colic are pretty much the same and our baby has them all. Colic usually ends at 3-4 months and reflux lasts until about 12-18 months so I pray that it isn't reflux but my motherly instincts are telling me otherwise.

I started counting his spit ups today so I could have actual statistics when we go to the doctor on Thursday. Since 6 this morning he has spit up 19 times.  And I'm not talking about a little spittle, half of these were projectile.  One of them he was sitting up against his Boppy which was against the back of the couch and he spit up over the seat and made it to the floor.  It was a site! By the way, can you imagine how many burp cloths we go through in a day? We have to wash those more frequently than our diapers! (I did buy 15 more today though.)

I feel so bad our little guy because you can just see and hear his pain.  There isn't much you can do for infant reflux so I am researching and working through all the natural suggestions I have been given.

In other news...we had a great weekend.  My in-laws came in for the weekend so Kevin and I could finally have a date night and then help us with lawn work. I know, they are incredible!  On Saturday Kevin's grandparents', Lucas's great-grandparents, came to meet him.  I think it is so cool that Lucas has three great-grandparents.  We were awful with taking pictures though...and we even had brought our camera everywhere we went!  (Sorry to those that follow me on Instagram (@brebug18) for some of the duplicate photos).
Our one picture with his great-grandma
Saturday night it was very hard to leave Lucas, even for two hours, we can't forget our couple time so it was needed. We went out for sushi (finally got to eat it after 10 months!) in our little town. The atmosphere was very cool, the sushi was good but the service was not great.  We were at dinner for two hours. One of those hours we waited for a roll that never ended up coming and this was after they lost our reservation and then had to move us to a different table after we ordered and had already received our drinks to accommodate another reservation.  Overall though it was wonderful having "adult" time and conversation.  And no, we didn't just talk about the baby:)

On Sunday (after changing my shirt five times over the night, my bottoms twice, Lucas's outfit three times and our bedsheets due to spit up, exploding diapers and leaking ta-tas) we went out and picked up some plants for the two areas in our front yard surrounding our lemon trees.  Kevin and his parents did a lot of work on one side yard and the back yard also but they are still in transitional phases.  We got very excited about what we are going to do with our spaces though.
Before

After (and in between) We put down moss so that still has to grow and the whole floor area will be green. Please disregard our lawn...that's coming!

Well, Lucas is finally asleep in Kevin's arms (don't know why but the kid slept a total of one hour today from 9:45 am until 8:15 pm) so I'm going to do some wedding research for my sista and then maybe get to the laundry;)  Priorities!
