Catching Up a Bit

Well life really is crazy right now.  Kevin and I kept saying as soon as the baby comes life will slow down.  Boy were we naive.
On a very personal note, my grandma, my mom's mom, Granny, has late stages of dementia.  My mom has been taking care of her for the last 17 years but it finally came to a point where Granny needs someone around 24/7.  My mom still works so she can't be there 100% of the time.  So we moved Granny into an assisted living home. She is now in her second home. It has been three weeks. There have been some issues but Granny is still there. In that time we have held two garage sales at my mom's and Granny is completely moved out of her home. Granny is 94 and physically she is great so I think she has quite a few more years left in her. We're still not done figuring out where Granny will reside for her last years as her dementia has been progressing pretty rapidly but that's why we moved up here, to be closer to family and help out.  My sisters, though not that close geographically, have also been very supportive. They each came out for one of the garage sales and helped clean out Granny's house. So we'll see where the next few months takes us!
Lucas fell asleep on Aunt Debbie

Somehow we didn't get a picture with Auntie Angelina during the garage but she did make Lucas laugh.   Good thing we get to see her tomorrow!
We were so excited to see Auntie Shira!
On a lighter note...Lucas:)  My love!  I went back to work on July 1...boo:(  Even though I work from home and Lucas is only a few feet away at any given moment it is still different.  I don't get to put him down for his naps or know what is making him laugh right that second but I am still nursing him throughout the day, unless I have a meeting when he's hungry, and running to give him a kiss when I need one:)
First day back at work.

Kevin is still on the job hunt.  He's a bit frustrated but at the same time so grateful that he is getting this bonding time with his son.  I think he's a bit conflicted about the whole thing.  He never planned on being a stay at home dad but he knows he'll never get this time again, well until his next company shuts down;) (We have to make light of it!)  He is getting lots of landscaping done with the house which he loves.
Found a 6 foot tree trunk buried in the backyard!
For the 4th we went to Kevin's parent's house.  It was 110 degrees that day! Thankfully it cooled down to the mid 90s the next two days.  So we got lots of pool time.  Being in that heat with a baby is not fun though.  Even though Lucas likes the pool he still only lasts so long and you can't have him sit in his play seat even in the shade because it's so hot.

And at night...the poor kid got my genes when it comes to sweating.  We both get hot very easily so he'd wake up sweating.  We finally just put a fan directly on him and he pretty much stayed in just a diaper the whole weekend.  We did have a good time though and Lucas got in lots of cousin time!  I grew up with my cousins and loved it so I really want Lucas to get that same experience.

Last night we went to a friend's birthday party at their house.  I know, we are now that couple who brings a baby to a party.

We won't bring him everywhere but if it's ok we will for awhile.  He still does great at the parties! Now that my mom doesn't have Granny she can come up and watch Lucas if we want a night out which is wonderful.  Once Lucas gets a little bit older we can have a neighbor babysit.  Actually two of our neighbors have offered to babysit.  On a random note, I LOVE where I live.  It's not perfect but there are some really amazing families and it seems very close knit which I have always wanted in a neighborhood.  The other night we were going on a walk and ran into a couple who had a baby son also and just started talking to them.  The mom told me that another couple in our community had a four month old son and when the boys get a little older we should start doing play dates.  This may sound weird but for as long as I have wanted to be a mom I have wanted to have play dates.  I can't wait! We also found out that very dear friends of ours are expecting a little one at the beginning of January.  It's actually a friend of Kevin's since elementary school so I'm so excited that we'll now have kids who will grow up together also.
Lucas is my mini-me, no question. I can give a mean look that my family has dubbed "snake eyes." Apparently he can have that look too:)
Lucas has changed so much in the last couple weeks.  He laughs, smiles and talks all the time. His personality is just breaking through.  He still screams when he wants something or is upset but if you know me then you know I was bound to have an emotional child:) I also think he is teething.  I don't want to say for sure he is because I know that this would be really young but he is showing signs. We can also see his two bottom teeth and feel them but I don't know if all babies have that and if they've
always been there.
Can you see them?

We have less than two weeks until his doctor's appointment so I'll find out then.  And believe me, I have Googled up a storm whether you can see all babies' teeth but I can't find a straight answer.
Ok, Lucas is napping and the house needs to be cleaned.  I'm hoping to finally write about our first Father's Day.
