3 Months Old and a Happy Birthday!

Dear Lucas,
You turned 3 months old yesterday.  That is a quarter of a year! Wow! This past month has been full of changes for you.  You are 14.5 - 15 pounds.  We are using our own scale so it's hard to be exact and it's even harder for me to believe you are 15 pounds already but that's what the scale said when you were on it with me.  You are still 23.5 inches, we think. You are a wiggly one! You are working your way out of 3 month clothes and into 6 month clothes. Your eye color seems to be changing some.  Daddy thinks they are going to be hazel.  They still are a dark blue but the middle seems to be changing to a gray.

You smile so much. You love to giggle. Grammi B even got you to give a full blown laugh on June 15.  It was such a hardy laugh but we haven't heard that one again and your daddy is dying to hear it.  I know it will come again though because you giggle a lot.

We went and visited Preslie Kay who had the most fabulous chair so we had to get you one too and you LOVE it! You are such a "talker" but when you get in your bouncer you can't stop talking. We love listening to your voice. You also still love your mobile.  It gets you so excited.  I keep trying to record or take pictures of your happiness but every time you see my phone or camera you get calm and just stare at it. You definitely don't get that shyness from me. You are super inquisitive though and that you get from me.  We want to know everything that's going on!

You have started to sleep so much better recently. The last week you have started to wake up just once to nurse and a few of those nights you even went to bed before 9 p.m. This has been amazing.  Our life has been pretty crazy lately but when we're home you take at least two of your naps in your crib. They usually aren't that long but that's ok. You also only take 3-4 naps a day but that works for us. When you have had a good sleep you wake up smiling and we know when you have really fallen asleep because you'll give a grin.

You are starting to eat a little less frequently also.  Once or twice a day you will wait a whole 2.5-3 hours:) You're still not a big fan of the car but you deal with it enough that we can go visit family.  I'm trying to find a good musical toy that lights up that we can put on your carseat when we drive because I think that will help.  You are no longer a fan of tummy time so we are trying to incorporate that more into our routine. You like book time, especially if the pages have lots of color on them.

You are amazing in restaurants! It really is unbelievable.  You have been out with us over a handful of times and you just chill.  You want to be on one of our laps so you can be a part of everything but once there you hang out without complaints.  We hope this lasts because we love to go out to restaurants every now and again!  You love to suck on your hand but you prefer if one of your burp rags is in that hand.  Apparently that makes it tastier;)  You would think with how much you suck you would take to the pacifier but nope, not for you! You are quite the anomaly when it comes to this.

You still love bath time.  We really think you are going to be quite the water kid. You have started to give signs that you are tired like rubbing your eyes, holding on to your hair or scrunching up both fists into your face.  You don't have full control of your arms yet so you hit yourself in the face quite a bit.  Daddy and I try not to laugh too hard:)  Oh, and you are a drooler! My goodness! Between the projectile spit ups and the drool you wear about 4 outfits during the day. We also noticed a few weeks ago that your fourth toe on your right foot goes under your middle toe.  We'll be asking the doctor about this at your 4 month appointment.

You spent the night in a hotel for the first time because it was Daddy's birthday. We had such a fabulous time in Santa Cruz. You loved watching the ocean. You have been such a light in our lives and we love watching you turn into the little person you are becoming.
We love you!
P.S. I recently read that parents should be very careful of the embarrassing pictures they put of their kids on the internet because then they are forever out there but this one is too funny not to post.  Sorry! I just love those chubby cheeks!

Well Hello There!

Yes, I am still alive and we are doing well.  We just have A LOT going on!

One month ago (the day after Mother's Day) my hubby called me in the morning from work and said that one of his directors just stopped by his lab to forewarn him that the mandatory meeting they were about to enter was to let everyone know the company was being shut down.  My heart dropped.  I was in complete shock.  Kevin kept apologizing.  Obviously not his fault but he felt bad.  He would be three for three with being laid off in his career.  Every time the entire company was let go.  The first time his company was being bought out and closed the site.  He sat around and watched movies at work for a few months while they figured out how to shut the site down and he couldn't take it anymore so he found his next job.  The next time his company decided that San Diego was too expensive to do business so they offered him a job in Boston. We politely declined. We're Californians!  Little did I know but Kevin had just picked up my engagement ring the same week this announcement was made.  He was given 6 months notice before his actual last day.  So I told him let's not freak out until after your meeting and we know what's going on.  I then immediately called my family in tears.  It's scary! But I had to stay strong for Kevin.  He called me right after the meeting and said they all had one hour to pack their belongings and leave the premises. WHAT?! He never had to move that fast before.  People were crying.  It was really sad.  We are doing ok though. He does get a severance and pay for three months.  I'm still on maternity leave so we have been off together for a month now.  I thought we might kill each other but it has been amazing.  We Kevin has done so much with our house.  We have also been able to get Lucas to sleep in his crib at night.  I'm actually really sad that I have to start working again in 2.5 weeks and that we don't get this time anymore.  I do work from home so believe me I understand how lucky I am that I don't have to actually leave my son, and now my husband, at home but I do have a regular 8-5 job so it will be different.

So in this time Kevin put in our front lawn...Hooray! It is so gorgeous!
Before (It was actually tall dead grass and Kevin dug it ALL up.)

After.  LOVE!

We are spending time with family.
Lucas's cousins.  They love him! Most of the time;)

And friends.
We finally got to meet Miss Preslie Kay.  She is adorbs! See how my son can't take his hands off of her?

Lucas got in the pool for the first time.  He loved it!
He's actually screaming crying in this picture.  I thought that his screaming would stop if I put all this swim wear on him and dragged him into the pool...WRONG! I got him out and changed and he fell right asleep so we don't count this day.
The next day we made sure he was rested and fed.  Oh what a difference! He stayed in the pool for half an hour.  I wish I got a better picture of him in his board shorts.  I die! But I was having too much fun with him.
Ok...my posts are probably going to be a little less in the next couple weeks while I enjoy my family time but I'll keep up when I can!

Happy Summer!
